The Ford Cocktail is a classic gin-based cocktail that was named after the founder of the Ford Motor Company, Henry Ford. The cocktail was created in the early 20th century and has remained a popular drink among gin enthusiasts ever since. It was inducted into Difford’s Hall Of Fame in January 2023.
The recipe for the Ford Cocktail was written in George Kappeler’s 1895 book Modem American Drinks – How to mix and Serve All Kinds of Cups and Drinks. The recipe typically consists of gin, dry vermouth, and a small amount of Benedictine herbal liqueur. Some variations (and the original) include a dash of orange bitters or a twist of orange for added (essential) flavour.
