Lassi, (“लस्सी” in Hindi) meaning ‘buttermilk,’ is an Indian sub-continental drink made from yoghurt. It has been around since something like 1,000 BC and has been thought to have pseudoscientific, Ayurvedic healing properties on both the stomach and mind. In actual fact, yoghurt is quite good for settling the stomach, and the recipe given here for a salted variant could be considered to be isotonic.
Salted versions of lassi are common, and the recipe on this page is from the Dishoom mini-chain of high-end, UK-based Bombay restaurants.
