Drink

The Bird is the Word

The Bird is the Word is a portmanteau of a Last Word and a Yellow Parrot, which was, in turn developed into the Yellow Bird. The drink was invented by Scotsman Fraser Campbell in Tony Starr’s Kitten Club, Melbourne, in May 2010.

Tony Starr’s Kitten Club was at 267 Little Collins St Level 1, Melbourne, VIC, Australia 3000, but is now closed. Do not confuse it with a strip club called ‘Kittens’ in the same town. Campbell now works as a brand ambassador for Dewar’s Scotch whisky.

The name of the drink probably comes from the 1963 song Surfing’ Bird by The Trashmen.
