We found the Monkey Brain on the menu at the Alderley Edge branch of The Bubble Room. After failing to find any origin or recipe for it, we started to Google the ingredients, and discovered that something very like it appeared on All Recipes as a modified Mai-Tai. It is nothing like a Mai-Tai. It is a whole other thing.
A different, shot-sized drink shares its name with the Alderley Edge tropical long drink. Again, that’s a whole other thing.

Monkey Brain
Ingredients
- 30ml Havana Club 3 year old rum
- 30ml Havana Club Especial rum
- 15ml apricot brandy
- 15ml lime juice
- 15ml simple syrup
- 75ml orange juice
- 75ml pineapple juice
Instructions
Shake all the ingredients in a shaker with ice and strain into an ice-filled highball or large jar. Garnish tiki style with pineapple, lime, mint and a cocktail cherry.
